Tiziano Tallarita, MD, FACS, RPVI

Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Department of Cardiovascular surgery, Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire, WI, USA

Dr. Tiziano Tallarita is Assistant Professor of Surgery and Chair of Education in the Department of Cardiovascular surgery.  Dr. Tallarita trained twice in vascular surgery, first in Italy, where he became board certified vascular surgeon in 2012, and later in the USA, with a fellowship in vascular surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester (MN).

Afterwards, he was offered the opportunity to build a vascular surgery program at the largest hospital of the Mayo Clinic Health System, which is in Eau Claire (WI). Over a few years, he has developed a modern vascular surgery program, providing excellent patient care by integrating teaching, research, and innovation. Some of studies done (or in progress) include development and/or optimization of new techniques, such as “midline retroperitoneal approach of complex aortic aneurysms requiring supra-mesenteric clamp”, “endoscopic brachio-basilic creation”, “thoraco-femoral bypass with laparoscopic tunneling of the graft”, “modified aortic graft to cover aortic thrombus before a fenestrated repair”, “hybrid, minimally invasive approach to treat acute occlusion of para-visceral aorta”, as few examples. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of “single center, triple blinded, prospective randomized trial on reduction of use of post-op opioids in patients undergoing lower extremity revascularizations” and co-PI of “a population-based study of deep learning derived organ and tissue measures for accelerated aging and surgical outcomes after vascular procedures using repurposed abdominal CT images”.

He frequently reviews articles for different surgical journals and is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Midwestern Society for Vascular Surgery, and European Society for Vascular Surgery.
